I'm uploading the info, entry forms, etc. at the moment.
The NSCS is a spring series of five races designed to help develop paddlers to the sport of slalom racing. It's intended as a follow-on to the Penn Cup series which is held in the fall. While all of the races in it have been held previously, this is the first year that they've been combined into a series.
Most NSCS races are held on Sundays, with Saturdays reserved for course construction, practice, and clinics. (The Esopus Doubleheader takes place on both days, however.) Clinics are taught by experienced racers -- usually A-B ranked paddlers -- and provide a way for intermediate and advanced paddlers to learn from some of the best. Note: Courses are CLOSED for practice during races and clinics.
Awards are presented at each race, and overall series awards (earned on a point system) are presented after the final race. To compete for the series awards, individuals must:
Individual Competition Awards: Competitors are awarded medals for first, second and third places based on their individual performances in the series. These will be determined by the points earned at their best three races in the contested class(es). Winners are determined by the lowest accumulation of points. Points will not be calculated for non-NSCS competitors. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st Place earns 1 point; 2nd Place earns 2 points; 3rd Place earns 3 points; etc.
Classes of Competition: All standard classes (according to boat, gender, age, and ability) will be contested provided the three boat minimum is met. The registrars have the right to reclassify paddlers to assure fair and competitive classes. Overall series awards will be given in the following classes: K-1, K-1W, C-1, C-1W, C-2, C-2W, C-2M, K-1REC, K-1WREC, Team; the following agegroups: cadet-junior, open, senior-master; and in A/B and C/D/unranked classes. (Classes and agegroups may be combined or split if there are less than/more than 3 boats in a class/agegroup. Organizers will attempt to do so as fairly as possible in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to compete for a series award.)
Scoring Rules: The races will be conducted according to current Whitewater Slalom Rules of USA Canoe Kayak. A two (2) second penalty will be assessed for each touched gate, and a fifty (50) second penalty for each missed gate. One exception: places will be determined by the better of the two runs rather than combining the scores of the two runs. We will however, send combined times to USACK for ranking.
Volunteering: Participants are expected to help with gate judging and event clean up. Please arrive early and stay late.
And all this is just a brief introduction: for the full story, see the information listed below.
