The Jack Anderson Memorial Loyalsock Slalom

Sunday April 8, 2001

LOCATION:  The Loyalsock Slalom, sponsored by the Middle State Division of the American Canoe Association in conjunction with PSOC Whitewater Club and the Wildwater Boating Club, will be held in Worlds End State Park near Forksville, about 35 miles NE of Williamsport, PA. The course will be hung near the route 154 bridge within the Park, but the exact location will depend on water conditions and will not be decided until the Friday before the race.

THE COURSE:  The course will consist of 20 to 25 gates. Since it is on uncontrolled water, it could range from a shallow, easy class 2 in low water to a solid class 3 if the water is high. A reasonably difficult course should be expected, water permitting.

CLASSES:  K-1, K-1W, K-1R, K-1S, C-1, C-1 Medium, C-1W, C-2, C-2W, C-2M, OC-1, OC-1W, OC-2, OC-2W, & OC-2M, provided there are at least three (3) entries in the class by the preregistration deadline. K-1R is a "Recreational" class for plastic kayaks. K-1S is a squirt boat class. We will combine categories in accordance with the ACA Slalom Rules to make up classes where less than three are registered. If you do not wish to race in a combined category [for example, C-2W with C-2M] you should so indicate on your entry form. There will be a split based on ranking groups [AB-CD] in K-1, K-1W, and C-1. There will be JUNIOR and MASTERS subdivisions in any of the above categories for which there are enough entries.

ACCOMMODATIONS:  Competitors are responsible for their own camping arrangements. Reservations can be made by calling the PA DCNR Reservation line at 888-PA-PARKS.  Those without reservations may check at the Park Office for available campsites.  Camping within the Park is not permitted except at designated sites, and is specifically prohibited in the parking lot.

LIMITS:  There is a limit of 100 boats for the race, entries to be taken in the order they are received. There is a limit of two classes per person.

RULES:  Decked boats will race under the Whitewater Slalom Racing Rules of the USCKT, with modifications. Gate touches will be assessed a 2 second penalty, but places will be decided based on the better of the 2 race runs. However, combined times for the 2 runs will be reported to the USCKT for use in the national rankings of USCKT members. Open canoes must comply with the boat specifications of the ACA National Whitewater Open Canoe Committee, and will race under open canoe rules.
