From rsk@rockandwater.net Tue Jan 17 17:15:26 2012 From: rsk@rockandwater.net (Rich Kulawiec) Date: Tue, 17 Jan 2012 17:15:26 -0500 Subject: [cpr] RockAndWater.net joins SOPA/PIPA protests, will blackout site tomorrow Message-ID: <20120117221526.GA2037@gsp.org> [ It's been a while since there's been any traffic here on CPR; you folks still paddling out there? ] 1. The fight against SOPA and PIPA continues. We need your help. If you participate in a mailing list, run a blog, or use any web site that holds any user-generated content (which is "just about all of them"), YOU need your help. Start here: http://americancensorship.org/ Further background reading can be found in the links below. 2. I've joined many of my long-time colleagues -- people that I've known as part of the 'net community for over 30 years -- in signing this: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/12/internet-inventors-warn-against-sopa-and-pipa 3. On January 18 -- TOMORROW -- a number of sites, including Reddit, Wikipedia, the Internet Archive, BoingBoing, and 7,000 to 10,000 other sites will go dark for the day in protest of this attempt to destroy the Internet. Others (including Google) will be displaying anti-SOPA/PIPA messages on their home page. We will join them. Email services will continue, but our home page will be blacked out -- just as it could be after a single, anonymous, unfounded accusation should either of these two bills become law. Just as yours could be. We ask everyone reading this to join us -- and to call your representatives in Congress, expressing your complete opposition to these bills in *any* form. 4.
