NYCkayaker The 15th Annual Hudson River Swim For Life (Sept. 10, 2006)

 This swim was founded by Irvington police officer Dennis Chillemi in 1991, to raise awareness of the Hudson River. When his partner Officer Peter Carelli was diagnosed with MS, he decided to raise funds for MS. If I'm correct, MS was to be one of the sponsors and other charities could also participate. Slowly but surely, MS took over this swim and became its only beneficiary.When the organizers objected MS quickly trade marked the name and decided on a new location. Personally I don't agree with what they have done. I've done this support for years and will support the now called "Hudson River Swim for Life" on September 10th from Piermont to Irvington.

  I think that is some misunderstanding.  There was and still is a swim from Piermont to Irvington.  The MS Society was asked to join that swim and be a sponsor and an organization for whom funds could be raised.  Some problems arose and the original group operating the swim from Piermont to Irvington felt it best to get another sponsor. That swim supported by most of us is to take place September 10th, Paul Amico of the pink hats and Sue Ellen Nelson of the diamond ring are coordinating the kayaks for that swim.  The MS Society was apparently disinclined  not have a swim this year, decided to have a competing swim on September 9th.  
  I for one will see you on the 10th of September.
