I use a THULE Roller coaster. It uses a roller on the back of the rack 
that lets me roll the boat up onto the roof. It still takes a bit of 
effort to get the bow up to the roller, and I try to remember to bring a 
towel to keep the boat from scratching the edge of the roof. THULE now 
makes something called the Hullivator, where you load the boat at the 
side of the car, and it has hydraulic arms that lift the boat onto the 
roof, but it's pretty expensive at $449 list price.
