NYCkayaker Sandy hook/coneyisland inquiries inquiry

I've kayaked from Manhattan to Sandy Hook's bay side and back in about
eight hours, but that was pushing past my comfortable
cruising/lollygagging/bird-watching/chatting speed. It's best to take
maximum advantage of the ebb/flood, but timing might be somewhat tricky
from your launch north of Hell Gate. There's a practice firing range
not far from the northern reaches of Sandy Hook too.
Coney Island shaves an hour off your float plan, but this a viable
landing spot only after the public swimming beach ends its season. Some
prime places are lost to private property claims, though these would be
interesting to challenge in court on Public Trust Doctrine grounds.
The Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club will also arrange a
circumnavigation on August 12, but during the daytime.
I hope you're having fun in the paddle-down Bronx!
Warm regards,
Erik
