ACA position on registration - good reading, gets you thinking about underlying arguments for & against -
http://www.acanet.org/stewardship/registration.lasso
One quote that popped out:
"State boating agencies should have a clear record of collaborating with, and serving the needs of the paddlesports community prior to seeking funding support from paddlers."
I'm not arguing either side right now, can see both sides very well, just throwing out info to consider - this is all getting into larger issues when the immediate problem that kicked this whole debate off is that the Hudson River Park has "lost" around 200 potential storage slots in the last couple of months - the barge through bureaucratic stupidity, the tribeca boathouse to budget overruns - that's real & immediate & I just can't accept those as set in stone - I know the former is still in play, and the latter should be worth questioning (in the vein of - so Trust, did you look at alternatives to cutting the boathouse entirely?)
hope people are emailing & writing letters to the trust, maybe the city council, maybe Pataki, maybe the NYC Department of Parks - everybody's thoughts are worth sharing with the Powers that Be, not just here amongst ourselves - sorry don't have time to give contact info, got a deadline, but it's all out there for the googling...to quote one of my outrigger friends' email signoff, gogogo!

>>>From the NY DMV page:
>>>
>>>Whether it's a tiny fishing boat for quiet days on the lake or a
>luxury
>>>party yacht for cruising around the bay, you must register any motor-
>>>driven boat that's used on public waterways in the state of New York,
>even
>>>if the motor isn't the primary source of propulsion.
>>>The Department of Motor Vehicles will issue you a registration
>certificate
>>>valid for three years and registration stickers; the certificate will
>>>indicate the registration number, which you must paint or affix to
>both
>>>sides of the boat's bow. Note that if the boat has a trailer, you
>should
>>>register the trailer also
