Dear Members,
As reported in The Journal News today:
If the skies are clear, Saturday night and Sunday night between the hours of 11:45 pm and 1:30 am should be prime viewing time for the annual Leonid Meteor showers. Because of Comet Tempel-Tuttle, one could expect to see 100-200 meteors/hr. rather than the usual 10-20/hr. If you want to see more get away from the city (light pollution) and go to a place far from artficial light, such as Harriman St. Pk., Sterling Forest or the upper Hudson.
If you can find a dark, quiet lake to paddle at night you will be rewarded.
On another note: I am planning to paddle the upper Wallkill River from Wantage, NJ to the NJ - NY state line (near Warwick) on Sunday. This nice quiet river should be extra high due to recent rains. It is a great bird sanctuary. Get back to me if you are interested.
