Yes.......it was a great night!
Fran and Barbie and Fred and Bob and the other Bob and Jill and Mo and Mo's
friend from San Fran area and OH YES! the moon!!!!!!!!!!!
Around 6:30 PM we began paddling slowly northward from Cold Spring and soon
reached the area near Little Stony Point NYS Park. What with the talking and
the baying and the laughter we didn't notice we were soon way south of there.
Ah Ha...an ebb tide at night will do that to ya. It was just as well as
other paddlers then had an easier time to join up with us. A couple boaters asked
us if we wanted some adult beverages...all declined.
Soon the full moon!
Silently rising from behind the eastern hills of the Hudson
Highlands...shining through the trees and remaining fall leafs.
We paddled back north and got to see several more moonrises......fabulous!
At one point we found ourselves at the intersection of moonbeams on the
water from the east and the reflected light from a southbound freight train as it
rounded Storm King...outstanding!
Bob Auchincloss from Kasual Kayakers in the Poughkeepsie area had his scull.
He slowed down his pace to stay with the other paddlers and took some
pictures. That craft can f-l-y!
Mo and his brother-in-law headed to the waters off Breakneck Mountain while
the rest of us went south.
Too soon back at Foundry Dock Park, everyone helped each other load kayaks
onto roof-tops and soon we were away to the Depot Restaurant. Dinner,
beverages and laughter completed a super evening. Non-organized events can be
g-r-e-a-t!
Maybe that was the last full-moon paddle of the year....
Maybe.........
Maybe........
For me, water temps of 50 degrees or lower = not paddling.
IF the water temp is at or above 50 degrees on November 4, for me the next
full moon paddle will be November 4...leaving Cold Spring at 4:30 PM...
Or if the water temp is below 50 just meeting at the Depot Restaurant for
dinner ???????????
In any event, thanks to all who paddled last Saturday night.......OH What A
Night!
