Last weekend Dan, Bruce, Jack, Maggie and I launched from Coxsackie for destination Gay's Point (no pun intended). Dan got there on Friday night and set up camp. When I arrived at Coxsackie early Saturday, a stiff wind was blowing out of the south. Just as I was going to shove off, Bruce arrived. I waited for him to stow his gear and off we went with instructions from Dan to stay on the west side of the Hudson to avoid the major wind gusts.
We set up our tents and just around lunch time Maggie and Jack called to tell us they arrived in Coxsackie. We awaited their arrival with the hope that the wind would die down. After they had settled in, Dan, Bruce and I decided that the wind was no deterrent to a nice fall afternoon paddle. We set off to navigate around the island to the south. Nature provided us with a spectacular sky show. It looked like storms all around us but we never encountered any rain.
Sunday morning we awoke with rain flies frozen stiff. Erie clouds of steam rose up from the Hudson until the sun cleared them off. A group of paddlers came by and wished us a good morning and suggested that we paddle up to Stuyvesant to have lunch at the café. They spurned us on to pack up and get paddling.
The day turned out beautiful and we enjoyed the crisp fall air. Lunch was delicious and the warmth of the restaurant welcome.
Of course you don't have to take my word. I was busy taking pictures all along. As always I have put together a virtual tour of this weekend for those that are interested. Some of the cloud scapes on Saturday afternoon were quite spectacular.
