Respond to this email by Wednesday 9 PM and you may be able to join in the
most exciting way to end the 2006 Full Moon paddling season (sorry...military
police requirements are limiting the number of participants). Camp-out on
Constitution Island and a Full Moon paddle! Thanks to the Cold Spring Kayak
Club a wonderful idea has taken hold!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday November 4:
10 to 10:30AM Arrive at Foundry Dock Park...and drive to the south end of
the Cold Spring Metro North parking lot. Drive through the gate to Constitution
Island...Enter roadway to Constitution Island. Note: entry will not be
allowed unless you've rsvp'd and pre-registered by contacting Jill:
_jak at softwarefitness.com_ (mailto:jak at softwarefitness.com) . Space is limited, 14
participants are already registered!
The island is a restricted military & historic facility and is closed to the
public! Anyone attending MUST, at a minimum, be registered with the club
(not necessarily a member) and attend the camp-out, not just the paddle. The
event fee is $10.00 per person and each person will need to sign an ACA
waiver.
Guests
Non-CSKC members (Guests) are welcome. They will be required to pay a $10
guest fee and sign an ACA waiver. Guests must also RSVP by the deadline.
NOTE: This will be the only way to get onto Constitution Island. No landing
by kayaks permitted. This year-to-date, West Point Military Police have
confiscated (forever) 8 kayaks that landed on Constitution Island. Their owners
walked back to Cold Spring. Hey, it is well marked...those are the rules.
The gate will close at 10:30 AM November 4. It will not be re-opened until
9AM Sunday. You, your car and your kayak will be on Constitution Island for
the duration. Hey, the MP's are the ones making that rule........
Mandy Merritt will be manning the gate to direct participants onto the
island. Kathy Ronstrom will be manning the pavilion to direct participants on
where to drop off camping gear and food, and where to park. Arriving vehicles
can stop on the road (next to the pavilion) drop off gear, then continue
straight down the road and park in the parade field. The boat launch site is at
this location as well. We must park on the parade field, not the front lawn of
the big white house.
This is a rare camp-out on Constitution Island. THANK YOU, Cold Spring Kayak
Club!!!
