We are moving forward fast with developing the NYC Watertrail, and we hope
to have some events throughout the five boroughs this summer.

We've already had several responses from area paddlers who have volunteered
to help with various aspects of the project, and will schedule a meeting in
the coming weeks to discuss specifics.

We are now soliciting suggestions from the community in the following areas:

• Future launch sites: what are your favorite places to launch in NYC?
We'd like to hear about both sites which are already designated and those
you'd like to see become designated sites. Who owns or operates the land
adjacent to the launch? Is the site accessible by public transportation?
Is there parking at the site? Is there boat storage available at the site?
Are there amenities at the site: bathrooms, potable water, food or drink
concessions? Is the site accessible year-round or seasonally?
• Day trips: what are your favorite NYC paddling day trips? Where do you
launch, where do you go, and where do you land? Approximately how many hours
of paddling does this trip take? Where do you stop en route: beaches,
picnic spots, restaurants or other facilities? What are the major sights
along the way: natural, historical, or cultural? What level of paddling
experience is appropriate for this route as far as conditions you'd
typically encounter and required fitness level? What is the ideal time of
year for this trip?

And finally, we are looking for clubs and organizations in each of the five
boroughs who might be interested in participating in events this summer,
hosting waterside festivals, doing on-water demonstrations, providing gear,
and / or leading trips for the members of the public of various experience
levels, co-sponsoring site cleanups, or partnering with other clubs and
organizations in these endeavors.
We'd like to get a comprehensive list of area clubs and organizations, both
established and new, to whom we might reach out when we start the actual
event planning stage.

We welcome your ideas and suggestions and hope you'll pass this information
on to any local groups who may not be on NYCKayaker.

Please address submissions, responses, and any questions you may have to:
