No personal experience, but I have two things to offer.

You can find lots of opinions on this question on the Advice message board at paddling.net (read the recent threads and search for older threads). The bottom line is that everybody seems to agree that Tropos is less breathable than Gore-Tex, but that fact bothers some people much more than others. So you have to try for yourself.

There is a well-reputed company in the Pacific Northwest called Kayak Academy that does a lot of business in drysuits. Their web site has much detailed information. Most importantly, they rent out drysuits. I plan to rent a Gore-Tex and a Tropos suit sometime in the next few weeks, to try them out. If you or anybody else is interested in trying a suit and are willing to pay and to come to northern Manhattan for the experience, mail me off-list and I will include you on the detailed logistics message that I mail to my club.

Hi,
Has anyone compared a Tropos Suit to a Gortex suit? I've read that the Tropos breathes but not as much as the Gortex. Is there a huge difference between the two? Will the Tropos basically be a steam bath?

Thanks,

Chris
