Oh man. Sure enough, every year we get hit with these stories.
The details are usually the same. Very sad. :<

NYCKayaker,
Well, another story that does not surprise. Water temps on the Long
Island Sound currently are 40.5 deg. F at Execution Rock and 41.5 deg.
F. about 3 miles off of Greenwich, CT. Air temps are in the 30-s. -

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew locates a missing kayaker, but the man is
dead.

Robert Guadiosi was found in the water of Little Egg Harbor on Christmas
Eve.

The 22-year-old from Little Egg Harbor had been reported missing earlier
Monday when he did not return from a short trip.

The Coast Guard says he was not wearing a life jacket or survival gear
for cold weather.

The missing kayaker found unresponsive Monday in Little Egg Harbor in
southern New Jersey was pronounced dead after attempts to revive him
were unsuccessful, Coast Guard officials said last night.

Robert Gaudiosi, 22, was found in the water of Little Egg Harbor on
Christmas Eve, said Thomas Peck, a Coast Guard spokesman based in
Atlantic City.

Gaudiosi had been reported missing earlier Monday when he did not return
from a short trip. He was not wearing a life jacket or survival gear for
cold weather, Peck said. He was found by a Coast Guard helicopter in
Little Egg Harbor south of the Manahawkin Bridge, Peck said. Gaudiosi's
kayak was found overturned, officials said.

"It makes it very difficult to find someone who is wearing camouflage
... and they are not able to signal us that they're in trouble," Peck said.

The victim was pulled unresponsive from the 48-degree waters, officials
said. Gaudiosi did not respond to attempts to revive him and was flown
to Atlantic City Medical Center.

Gaudiosi's mother reported him missing around 3 p.m., about four hours
after he left home, telling relatives he was "going out for a short
kayak trip" but not saying where.
