" Gaudiosi, a student at William Patterson University, left to kayak on the
creek behind his family's home on Edgewater Drive around 11:30 a.m. Monday.
When he did not return, his family became worried and called police at 2:22
p.m., according to Coast Guard spokesman Chris McLaughlin.
An air and water search led to the recovery of Gaudiosi's single-seat,
sit-in, Old Town Predator K-138, a hunting kayak, at 3:20 p.m. The 14-foot
camouflage craft had sunk in Little Egg Harbor 500 yards off the tip of Rose
Point Marsh. Half an hour later, rescue divers found Gaudiosi facedown in
44-degree water 300 yards offshore. Gaudiosi was not wearing a life jacket,
McLaughlin said."
