NYCkayaker Interest in meeting?

Bonnie/Julie,

I'll almost certainly be there whatever day it is, so you can add me to the
head count.

One thing I think needs to be discussed is what happens to the village
community boathouse (floating the apple's seed project at pier 40) when pier
40 gets the big remake. Even if they secure a spot to return to
afterwards--and that's far from assured, as neither of the rfp bidders
included them in their schemes--they're going to need somewhere to go to in
the interim. Yes, it seems probable that floating the apple is going to
'get' the boathouse at pier 84, but that's all the way up at 42nd and
besides, the pier 40 rowing operation has really grown into a separate and
site-specific entity. They serve a lot of stuyvesant, millenium and bmcc
kids in addition to a pretty big adult contingent from downtown and the
village. Not sure of their numbers, but these are really valuable community
programs--completely free, no membership requirements, no individually-owned
vessels--that seem likely to grow. I'd like to think they could co-exist in
the same boathouse with DTBH (given the right boathouse, of course!) but I'd
be curious to hear what you and others think about that.

Rob
