Hi:
I was just out to Markham Park this afternoon arranging a paddle for my
Tues/Thurs group.
Markham Park is a County Park is in West Broward bordering on the
Everglades. It is Sunrise at the intersection of State Road 84 and the Sawgrass
Expressway.
Last year these campsites were used for housing victims of Hurricane Wilma.
Tomorrow, (2/1) 30 sites will reopen for recreational use.
Each site rents for $23/nite providing the person filling in the application
lives in Broward/Dade/Palm Counties. ( $30 /day if a non-resident fills in
the application)
Each site permits one RV or two tents. Each site allows up to 4 people (and
four more for a slight extra charge). Each site full water and sewer and
electric,
There are also bathrooms and hot showers
Markham Park has two boat ramps which kayaks can use. One allows a launch
into New River Canal which is open going west for 7 miles with Everglades on
one side to State Road 27. Or you could go East on the New River Canal from
the Park for 9 miles till the water control device at University Ave.
The other ramp at the Park lets you launch into the L35A Canal that runs
north to Commercial Blvd which is 5 miles. I was told that there is a secret
lake at the end of this Canal which does not appear on any map. That's what our
group will explore tomorrow.
Of course your can car top from the Park to the Ocean or the ICW etc.. But
it is neat to be able to launch right from your tent if you have a whim to
paddle.
Or you can shop and have all the modern conveniences in walking distance in
Sunrise
If you make a reservation now and for some reason need to cancel, your money
will be returned less a $10 processing fee
