NYCkayaker Kayaking Death In Maine

Mike and David,
I think you guys are missing the point here. These guys were ill prepared with no drysuits and no radio or phone. They went out thinking that conditions were fine and not apt to change (which they can in a flash). When hypothermia sets in you can't hold onto anything as you slip into unconciousness, then you drown. The power of huge waves can snap anything as if it were a twig. It probably broke after he expired, but who's to know what really transpired.
Lee

>Hi folks...The Hoboken kayak launch is all set again after a rough winter kind of ruining the spot.... but it's all better now. And....
>There are these great concerts all summer in Hoboken at Frank Sinatra Park at the kayak launch. They are 7-9pm Monday and Thursday evenings.
>Go to www.hoboken411.com and scroll down to "Summer Enchanted Evenings Concert Series". or you can find it on www.hobokeni.com
>Also--there are these 3 pretty cool restaurants right by the launch site. Each has outdoor tables....(The Frank Sinatra Cafe is closed, but these other places are just south of the kayak launch and pretty good.) Make a night of it!
>The restaurants... Quays Restaurant, Trinity Restaurant, and 45 Restaurant....
>(Now don't go putting that in your watertrail guide with a magic marker....We're watching...Remember now-it's NJ... All this Jersey waterfront stuff postings--kind of makes me want to make a trailer park NJ version!)
>Also the Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse dates and times are on those websites too. And check our website of course for the new Hoboken and Jersey City Reservoir dates. Our first program at Frank Sinatra Park is this Sunday June10th. 11am-4pm. Come paddle around....

>So- I just have a question for the guys involved with NY watertrail guide...I know it's NY so that makes sense...But-Do you guys think it's a good idea to -not --inform kayakers- (especially ones that are not familiar with the area)-that if they skip across river-in about 10- 15 minutes they can land, rest, eat, pee at alot of spots.....? When I'm paddling-I go by what's easy to land or launch at... or what's entertaining coming up next...
>Maybe a very very small footnote here and there for stuff nearby would be helpful. Especially things so dramatically close to NY.
>Believe me....I'm used to Jersey being ignored or dissed...And sadly--I almost enjoy it in some perverse way... But I kind of don't get it this one as a kayaker guide in this paddling zone...
