hey sand-
looks like you hoboken day yesterday was another GREAT succes!
it looks like the NYC WT guide will be a bit different from the HRWA guide.
for one thing it will most likely be published online to start, so updates
and changes can be made more frequently. (the downside of that being that
you can't easily bring it in your boat!) hopefully some version of it will
be published in hard copy at some point as well, more likely in the form of
a paddlers guide / map, a single sheet laminated type of thing.
the guide will focus on / cover NYC launch and landing sites, primarily.
it's a NYC Parks Dept effort. but we do aim to include suggested trips from
these sites as brief paddles or day (or longer) trips, and NJ sites
(sightseeing and launch / landing sites) will definitely be included in that
list.
for instance, the entry for the 79th street boat basin might say that a good
short-ish trip could be to see the parrots in edgewater with a stop for food
at mitsuwa, or that when launching from pier 96, a nearby landing site could
be the hoboken cove boathouse or the new facility at maxwell house beach.
i can put you in touch with commissioner lewandowski who is spearheading
this effort or you and i can talk about how to gather some important info on
the NJ sites so we can get them included.
and both guides (and the others folks are working on now in the NYCX region,
like in the bronx) should all and cross-pollinate: we can share the info,
link to each other, etc.
maybe a group like HEPPAWG would be interested in considering developping a
NJ WT guide? or we could do a NJ hudson river supplement for the HRWA guide
or NYC WT guide?
let's talk.
