Pardon my ignorance, but is "brown" water meant to be the opposite of white water?
Just east of Williamstown, on the Mohawk trail, is a beautiful area. There's an outfitter on the Deerfield River, just outside of Charlemont, called Zoar (or something like that) which might be able to give you specific info. on access to the water -- which is a kind of slow or calm rapids before you get to Shelburne Falls. Enjoy.

Looking for a day trip on brown or quiet water in the Williamstown, Mass. area. Can anyone give me some ideas with put-ins and take outs?
