I think this is a great event for power boat racers of which I am not but different strokes for different folks is I think appropriate, I believe we Kayakers should be a little more acceptance of other water lovers, jet skiers power boaters large ships water taxies etc. Lets go down to the water and take in this race for one hour out of 365 days of the year and enjoy,Boyd

What a miserable event! It starts a Noon, or so their flyer says.

Anybody know whether, and during what hours, the channel will be closed for the race? I was planning to cross the Hudson at Yonkers well before noon and cross back well after, but I don't want to get mowed down by a stray racer or get picked up by the law for being in a closed area.

<div>FYI - there arekayaking andswimming eventson the NY waterways this weekend. There is also a large power boat event to be aware of. The 2007 Poker Run (the really big, really noisy cigerettee boats) willtake place on Saturday June 16. There is basically a race from the GWB to the TappenZee Bridge at Noon with boats traveling well in excess of 100 MPH. Most of this will take placetowards the westren side of theRiver. Nevertheless there will be alot ofpowerboats on the river.
