NYCkayaker Poker Run

Hi All-

I remember a few years back, I was escorting a swimmer
in one of the Marathon swims, and the Poker Run boats
were going upriver. Because the main start isn't until
the BW Bridge, they weren't at full throttle. But the
wake from them was impressive. Not as big as some
stuff we've seen on the East River, but for a swimmer
it had to be "interesting".

Biggest problem with something like the swim is that
you just can't schedule it for any day. I wonder how
many weekends have the proper flood/ebb cycles
starting at the appropriate times? And what if that
perfect weekend happens to be when the power boats are
out there?

Fortuantely no one gets kept off the river, we don't
want to have kayakers prevented from paddling in NY
Harbor, do we?

Maybe we can live with this. I really hope so.

enjoy-

jack

ps: as far as the noise, and waste of fuel, not a good
thing at all.
