NYCkayaker 2007 Poker Run Saturday June 16th

I'm participating as a kayaker this year, but will not do so again if it is
scheduled on the same day as this race. If I knew about it sooner than a
few days before the race I would have cancelled.

Nothing riles me much more than these motor boats on so many levels. Before
I became a kayaker I lived downtown on the waterfront and was so upset by
the noise these boats created that I wrote letters to every elected city
official trying to get them banned. Now as a kayaker, especially at this
point in time, I feel sensitive the recreational access issue. However, I
still can't help but feel that allowing a small and privileged group people
to disturb at the very, very least 1/2 million people (and endanger a
small group of privileged people...us) in the course of an afternoon is bad
public policy. And that's without the environmental impact.
