At Saturdays MIMS we had a short memorial for Jeff Hoyer, a fellow kayaker and good friend to many of us. He passed away suddenly at the end of last year. He had a long history of supporting the MIF swims.

Though only a few people knew it, I had the honor of sprinkling some of his ashes from my kayak along the way around Manhattan during the swim. 

Many of Jeff kayaking friends did not know that he was also an excellent Jazz musician. His musician friends put together a 3 hour CD set of his music. John Zindar asked me to post his appeal letter for Jeff's memorial fund to all his kayaking friends.

Dear Friends of Jeff,

 

I am making a final appeal for donations to Jeff's memory. 

 

Contributions are being asked for either the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra (http://wyso.music.wisc.edu) or Scenic Hudson, (www.scenichudson.org) representing both his life long passion for music and his more recent passion for kayaking.

 

Please make checks to one of the above, and send them to me by the end of June.

I want to send in the contributions together to ensure that Jeff's memorial is properly accounted for Jeff's family's records. Your checks serve as a receipt for tax purposes.

 

We are also hoping to reach the $1,000 amount, and thus far have collected or have pledged a total of $735.

 

There are still plenty of 3-hour CD sets of Jeff's magnificent musical retrospective put together by Ben Young on WKCR.

 

We have been asking for $20 for the CD set which would be donated to the memorial - but please - send anything - even $5.00 - and ask me to send you a set - these are beautiful, and need to be with his friends, donation or not.
