NYCkayaker Sept 8: Five-Boro Tour

Hi All,

Okay, it looks good for Sept 8, and we even get to sleep an extra hour!

Yes, there's a Brooklyn Bridge Swim that day, but the schedule allows
for a mid-tour merge of volunteers from that event. In anything, media
stationed at the Dumbo Cove could package the two events into one as a
harbor revival story.

That could really be a blast. My vision of this tour is something more
akin to a roving, mini-Clearwater Festival than a race. Imagine boats
(some perhaps decorated in fanciful ways) paddling and rowing between
parties with music and food (ideally local produce), with small
optional "swim-ins" at each site! Indeed, we'd welcome the Clearwater
to sail along with us!

I don't see this as a race. In terms of kayak races, I want to see the
NYC Mayor's Cup grow and prosper. But if the organizers of that race
want to include a racing element in this, we will welcome them as a
partner, of course.

So, if there's interest in getting this kind of event afloat, let's get
crackin'! Any leaders comingto the fore?

Warm regards,

Erik
