Hey Guys,

Can anyone make this meeting? I will be out of town. Graeme Brichall, Owen
Foote, Sandy Sobanski, and I have been to a number of them in years past.

A bit of background (extreme simplification).
The park is very controversial, but it is going to get built sooner or
later. It is controversial because it includes some large residential
luxury housing buildings that are supposed to "pay for" the park. This has
caused complaints from people who want the park because no other park is
self financing, why should theirs be. The other people arrayed against it
are wealthy people who live in Brooklyn Heights and don't want their views
blocked, or "non neighborhood" (ie non-wealthy, non-white) people walking
through their neighborhood to get to the park.

The original plans called for a Boathouse. So it would be nice to know if
the Boathouse is still included in the park.

Graeme and I took the landscape architects who were working on the design
out for a trip on the river a few years ago, we worked with Paul Seck and
Dorthy Tang and Michael VanValkenberg Architects. I'm not sure if they are
involved any more or not.

Graeme had a lot of interaction with the park designers about their plans
for a "safe boating area", and wrote a long critical analysis of it to the
people in charge, and also got a through response from them. If anyone is
planning on going please contact him for some background on it.

Also be sure to read Graeme's document:
http://mysite.verizon.net/Graeme_Birchall/urban-boathouse/Boathouse-design-issues.pdf

To have a critical eye toward some of the design issues.

I know everybody is busy, and probably none of us have the resources to
actually run a Boathouse here because we are too busy with our own
projects, but it's good to keep the powers that be focused on
non-motorized boating in our new parks.
