Hi Carter and Eric and the rest,

We have to remember that the Coast Guard staff telling us what to do might
be new to boating and new to New York Harbor and probably aren't kayakers.

As an example at noon Saturday of Memorial Day weekend I was out in our
chase boat from Pier 40 on an outing with my family and was understandably
guided away from the temporary unmarked Security Zone of Pier 84 by the CG
in the little orange boat then was intercepted while crossing the river by
the CG 42' ? white cutter? with six or seven young men in uniform that
informed us our boat was to small and our motor was to small and the river
and harbor were way to busy for a boat like ours. The harbor was the calmest
and quietest we had ever seen it except for our pre dawn excursions. We
thanked them and told them of our intentions of heading south then
recrossing from Jersey City.

I'm watching this Safety Vessel writing with interest, not sure if I will be
in town Saturday and not sure if any of the motors for my Safety Vessel can
be working again for Saturday. But the boat and lights and two or three sets
of hand painted SAFETY VESSEL signs are at Pier 40.
