Hi All,
I'm posting a trip that Steve Blumling and I will lead this Sunday,
Sept. 30th. Cheesequake State Park, (don't you just love the name?) is located in Old Bridge Township, NJ. It's a former picturesque, historic steamboat seaport that has silted over and reverted to the birds. I paddled here a few weeks ago. The St. Pk. has eco tours and allows camping, which we won't be taking part in at this time.
Steve will be leading a longer trip from western Staten Island and will meet up with my group which will launch out of Old Bridge Waterfront Park. Steve's embarkation point will add and additional 5 miles to the roughly 12-15 mile round trip.
Because high tide is around 11:15 am, we should be in the water at Old Bridge no later than 9:00 am to take advantage of the flow into the park. So arrive at the launch at 8:00 am
DIRECTIONS: Old Bridge Waterfront Park - Route 35: South - 1st U-turn after Cheesequake Creek drawbridge. Turn right, go straight, lot on left. North - U-turn ramp before drawbridge, first right, lot on left. In-season snack bar, bathrooms. Use caution going around and through jetties, high tide under railroad drawbridge is dangerous.
Know your tides.
Tides for Cheesequake Creek, Garden State Parkway starting with September 29, 2007.
