NYCkayaker Paddle finish

With the wood paddles I've only used Butchers Wax from a can like shoe polish.
The redwood and cedar woods seemed to be stringy and fiberous while wearing, the various found 2x4's surfaces always held up better.

I leave the paddles in the boats on the beach exposed to the weather most of the summer, the pine, hemlock and other 2x4 paddles would take on a silvery patina.

Tried that with some minimally finished plywood boats but they mildewed rather than turn the nice silver color
