Thanks for the cautions, both of you. I will NOT stuff my oily rags in the
back of my van and take to the road. If I can't dispose of them properly on
the spot, I'll put them in a container of water to transport so they stay
wet until I can. Then dispose of rags and container properly.
Might have been a good idea to change the subject on the email, though, I
almost didn't read either of your posts!

Absolutely! When I was a contractor, a customer of mine set fire to her art
studio with a pile of rags left lying around. You can also just spread them
out to dry outdoors for a few days before disposing of them.
