Does anyone know whether there are any plans in the works to build a public boathouse at the relatively new East River State Park (http://newyorkcitydiary.blogspot.com/2007/06/williamsburgs-new-east-river-park.html) in Williamsburg? I spent an hour picking up trash (mostly broken glass, plastic straws, fishing line, and cigarette butts) at the beach there this Sunday afternoon. It's hard to imagine a better place for a boathouse and small boat launch ramp. The beach is sheltered and not too rocky, and the riverbed drops off gradually (I wore my kayak boots so I could wade out a couple of feet to see for myself.) The park has a huge amount of open space, and it is easy to reach by bike and by car (lots of parking on Kent Avenue). I have a vision of a facility like the Annsville Creek Paddle Center in Peekskill. If anyone is working on this, please let me know, because I'd love to help make it a reality.
