NYCkayaker Yonkers/Robert Moses again

The original fight to save the yonkers canoe club was technically with the
county of Westchester, after a lot of successful correspondence generated by
the kayak/canoe world the county more or less handed over the development
issue to the city of yonkers. The city of Yonkers politicians and planners
have been assuring the YCC/yprc that the canoe club was safe all along and
no worries, the famous "they want us there". Last year the city started
redeveloping the JFK marina with state waterfront funds and offered kayak
storage. Meanwhile they had been boxing off and restricting points of access
to the canoe club, removing the sewage hook up so there were no bathrooms,
making it very hard to get a kayak in and out. The degas was already in the
hands of the Yonkers politicians and the city waterfront planners, the ones
assuring the yprc, that they wanted us there in April 2007, they also failed
to let the canoe club know at that time that the club was in jeopardy. One
of the canoe clubs newer members is the yonkers city council president and
lead person in yonkers politics on all of this, he has been active at all
last years club functions, but neglected to let the yprc board know any of
this, even though it was supposed to be distributed to all interested
agencies and parties. It wasn't supposed to be secret in April.
"CDA adopted the final scope on April 19, 2007, and circulated the scope to
involved and interested agencies and persons. Make sure you get a
acknowledgement , I was cc on a couple of people emails, so I know a receipt
is sent. The city of yonkers residents, very few are waterfront users now,
at the meeting last night, which was more an answer session for people that
didn't know what was going on. I could tell the attendance in the room
wasn't very worried about canoe club or bicycle riding on warburton avenue,
happily a couple people brought up that they all travel to Hastings on
Hudson or to Dobbs Ferry to use their waterfront parks. The Robert Moses
days of adding roads, removing canoe clubs and separating people from the
waterfront are out supposed to be bad history , mistakes not to be made
from again. >>>

[mp] the mayor should also contact the mayor his email is
philip.amicone at yonkersny.gov
he is a lame duck mayor, and overall I believe is a good guy "in the land
of yonkers, the city of hills and valleys where nothing is on the level".
He definitely did help the club out before.
