NYCkayaker Shorter Kayak Race

Ahoy'all,

I'm pondering putting together a shorter kayak race -- nearly a sprint --
from the New York Water Taxi Beach to the Queensboro Bridge and back.
Alternatively, and with more Coast Guard headaches, it could cross from LIC
to Manhattan and back. Proceeds would benefit the LIC Community Boathouse
and be a highlight of our June 19 party there.

Our location is fantastic, in terms of skyline views and shoreside
atmosphere, and participants would immediately be engulfed in a pretty
awesome party. The prize would be a trophy (with an amazing photo award
stand skyline backdrop) and a percentage of collected entry fees (perhaps
with a matching sponsor).

Would there be much interest in the kayak racing community?
