2008 FULL MOON PADDLES

Location: Cold Spring, NY

Leaving from Foundry Dock Park next to the Metro North parking lot (free
parking on weekends).

Destination: North

Some paddlers like to watch the moon rise near Little Stony Point
Park...others like to go to the area where Breakneck Point meets the Hudson
River...while a few like to circumnavigate Bannerman Island (about a one hour paddle
each way from Foundry Dock Park).

The Hudson Highlands Gateway Area between Storm King Mountain (to the west)
and where Breakneck Point (to the east) meets the Hudson River has been
called the most mystical place on the Hudson River. It is here at night where many
have experienced the most profound feelings of awe. On very quiet nights,
one can sometimes hear the rare splashings of unseen gentle sentient beings as
they laugh, walk, run and skip across the water.

Each kayak must be equipped with a 360 degree white light on its stern.
These are available from Hudson Valley Outfitters, 63 Main Street, Cold Spring or
from other sources.

NOTE: These are NOT organized events. There is no leader or organizer.
Paddlers accept sole responsibility for themselves. These outings are not for
kayakers who have not paddled several times on the Hudson River. Rain and/or high
winds cancel.

The following Saturdays are the closest Saturdays to the 100% full moon.
After returning to Foundry Dock Park paddlers sometimes adjourn to the Depot
Restaurant in Cold Spring (site of the old train station).

The 2008 dates and general departure times for the full moon paddles (if you
get there late, just head north):

April 19...8 PM (if water temperatures are above 55 degrees)

May 17...6 PM

June 21...10:30 PM

July 19...9 PM

August 16...7:30 PM

September 13...6 PM

October 11...4:30 PM

November 15...6:30 PM (if water temperatures are above 55 degrees)

Happy paddling to all.

Walt Thompson
