NYCkayaker Human-powered boating - an endorsement

Greetings;

I recently read a good endorsement of human-powered boating. It is by
Teddy Roosevelt: "I cannot help thinking that the people with motor
boats miss a great deal. If they would only keep to rowboats or canoes,
and use oar or paddle ... they would get infinitely more benefit than
having their work done for them by gasoline."

Teddy wrote this in his autobiography in 1913. By this time he had been
a member of the NY State legislator, rancher, author, president of the
NYC Police Board, assistant secretary of the Navy, solder in combat,
governor of NY State, and president of the US. So his endorsement is
not simply that of an enthusiast. It is by a man who knew quite a bit
about the world, and about New York City in particular.

Happy and safe paddling.
