It's a small inlet on the Harlem River, between Dyckman Street and 207 Street. The area around it is being developed, and we uptowners are pushing for water access.
I don't know the history. Wikipedia says it was named for a Sherman family that settled nearby in the early 1800s -- no mention of William Tecumseh.

Where is Sherman Creek, and who is the Sherman it was named after?
(I'm guessing General William Tecumseh Sherman, who burned Atlanta to the ground and
scorched the earth from there to the sea at Savannah, crippling the Rebels in the
largest and bloodiest war in American history.)
