Bonnie,
Here is a copy of the letter I sent to my club, the YPRC, on 1/24/08.
I really believe The City of Yonkers would not allow our sewer and water to be hooked
up if they had any intention of booting us out...
Everyone relax, take a deep breath and trust in our board members, who
have a great rapport with the city officials. The YPRC boathouse will remain
where it is now, only with much needed improvements, ie. a new walkway, retaining
wall and facade for the same. I forsee a future where we have two dynamite
facilities and our club will be regarded as the most progressive kayaking club in
America!
An outside agency prepared the plan and city officials should and will
amend it to our satisfaction. Believe.

I'm confused - I thought that when there was that whole county-shows-city-who's-boss
flap a couple of years ago
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9906E0DF163BF932A35751C0A9629C8B63&scp=1&sq=Yonkers+Boathouse+alexander+street+plan&st=nyt
there was enough public objection that they managed to find a way to let the boathouse
stay.
Do they run some sort of memory-erase program on these planners once every couple
of years or something? Maybe consideration of what's actually already there
& working is thought to be too mind-cluttering to allow room for Vision?
Sorry. Practical question is is - would the Yonkers Paddling & Rowing Club like
people to be sending emails anywhere? It was great that you got the expansion but
is this business with the Alexander Street Plan going to force that to be immediately
followed with contraction?
My immediate reaction to Mike's emails was "Oh no, not again, who do we
write to?" but didn't want to just go crazy without asking for more info.
Sorry, I know the discussion is probably in full swing on the Yonkers list but since
it got mentioned here, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask for more detail.
btw I posted about Pier 40 yesterday - www.frogma.blogspot.com - there's a gentleman
from Vermont who left a comment about a similar situation they're having &
I guess that's what got me thinking about the Yonkers thing & wondering
if the club would like any letters of support from friends.
