NYCkayaker Memory Paddle (Long Island Circumnavigation) Tech Help?

Ahoy'all,

I'm gearing up for the Memory Paddle, which launches on August 13 and
concludes on August 27. As many of you know, this is to benefit the Long
Island Alzheimer's Foundation. I follow in the paddle strokes...or I raft in
the wake of...some fantastic paddlers. It all started with a Brooklyn
paddler, in fact.

I would be grateful to peopel who can help me on a few technical fronts:

1) I plan to have a Wordpress blog at www.memorypaddle.org. Nextel has
offered (though there are other options) to provide GPS tracking so that a
live map can be made of my movements. Could anyone help me set that up on
the homepage?

2) I would like to have video from a camera mounted on my kayak or hat
(helmet only for short and dorky intervals). Could anyone advise me on this?

3) I'll need a partner to help maintain the blog and edit the video. I
imagine I will come ashore, upload raw material and a paragraph or two, and
then fall asleep. That partner would edit the video for a minute or so of
highlights, or even less.

Donations will be made by simply linking to the Long Island Alzheimer's
Foundation site itself.

Any help in promoting this cause and the site would be greatly appreciated.

Some of you have asked to paddle this with me. I recognize that there are
many superior paddlers on this list and in NYC. There are a few reasons that
this won't be a group outing for the full length:

1) Logistics: I am crashing at the home of family, friends, and LIAF
supporters. A larger crew would eb hard to accommodate.

2) Personalities: Hey, how many of you might strangle me after 10
days-to-two weeks on the water with me? :) And many paddlers are faster. I
wouldn't want to spend days saying, "Wait for me!"

3) Narrative: This paddle is dedicated to a person in my life and it's an
easier presentation to media to pitch it that way. I wouldn't want to
disrespect the stories of other paddlers going the whole distance by
subducting them.

4) Continuation: Better that those egaer to make the trip lead in successive
future years than the whole lot of us blow it in one year. I fear too many
people will go on this outing and then in the future say, "I already did
that one."

That said, we are going to invite people to join for individual days or a
few days for a donation to the LIAF.

Thanks again!
Erik
