NYCKayaker:

My response to anyone troubled by a "fee" to kayakers for helping
with this swim is contained in my email to Will. (below). It is not
about the event or charities being "a good cause." Rather, it is all
about these are really devastating illnesses. And, we have an
opportunity to help on several levels.

I believe that it won't cause anyone to go into insulin shock. We
are looking for experienced kayakers and this list is a great resource.

    Will,
It is a charity for a very good cause. They are asking everyone
who is able to contribute. Thus, the fee even for kayakers. Same
level: the swimmers pay a fee to swim across the river.
If you would like to participate but have a financial problem
with the fee then please send a note to Diandra asking her to waive
the fee. Any other reasons objecting to the fee and it comes down to
one of those things where we just move on to something else. I hope
to see you out there. Many thanks. Richard Clifford

I sent some e-mails to the powers that be to clairify, or remove this fee ... Oh, and I hope I don't get sickly sweet responses like
