Hi Everyone,
The Red Hook Boaters, Gowanus Dredgers, Village Community Boathouse, and
Downtown Boathouse are all working together to do a program of free
kayaking in the what will eventually be the Brooklyn Bridge Park. The
events will take place in the Dumbo Cove under the auspices of the
Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and NYC Parks Department.
We will do free kayaking, rowing, and trash pickup.

The first event is on August 2nd, this Saturday. We are going to paddle
kayaks up from Red Hook to use during the event.
The trip up should be fun we will paddle right by two of the Waterfalls,
and what will eventually be the new Brooklyn Bridge Park in the East
River. We will also hit the Boathouse Dock at Governor's Island on the way
back.
The schedule is as follows:
-10:00 Meet In Red Hook.
-10:30 Start paddling North.
-11:30 - 3:30 Run the free paddling event in Brooklyn in Dumbo.
-3:30 start heading back South.
-4:00 Stop at Kayak dock on Governor's Island. You can tour the island,
rent a bike, or just hang out. If you have never been there, you will
really enjoy it. Check out their website for details. www.govisland.org.
We might stay longer if they will let us, or shorter if everyone wants to
get home.
-5:00 Head back to Red Hook.
-5:30 Get to Red Hook and put the Boats away.
If you are interested in helping shuttle boats, or want to paddle along
with us please email me directly: tgamble at syllog.com. If you have your own
boat and want to stop by, just make sure you come during these hours.
They plan to include kayaking and rowing in the new park, so far the
agency, and the conservancy have been very supportive of human powered
boating.
