Eric, Ed and everyone....
The above link is from a NY Times article from 1895 about two "lads" who
were attacked by a bald eagle in California:
Here is the first paragraph:
BALD EAGLE ATTACKS TWO BOYS; THEIR FIGHT FOR LIFE ON THE SIDE OF A
CALIFORNIA PEAK. The Younger Lad Badly Lacerated and Probably Blinded by the
Bird's Talons -- Their Rescue.
May 19, 1895, Wednesday
UKIAH, Mendocino County, Cal., May 9. -- Clinging to the side of Hill's
Peak, 1,000 feet above the ca+/-on bed, Willie and Eddie Briggs, aged
thirteen and eleven years, fought a bald eagle for their lives Tuesday. The
younger lad was knocked down repeatedly, and so torn by the talons and beak
of the bird that he will lose his eyes and be disfigured for life.
