NYCkayaker New Safety Meeting, with NY Waterway Co.

*The Captains **&** Paddlers Day that the Hudson River Paddlers Guild
organized at Pier 66 on May 17th  was well attended by representatives of
the Coast Guard, NYPD and FDNY Harbor Units, a number of paddlers and rowers
representing more than a dozen organizations, and a good cross section
of captains and executives from the area's commercial maritime
companies. There were several hours of very useful exchanges that we hope
will lead to safer and more enjoyable paddling in NYC area waters. *

*NY Waterway Co. was absent from Captains & Paddlers Day.  The Guild has
followed up with them and their safety officer has invited local paddlers to
meet with them to discuss our concerns on June 12th, starting at 5:00PM, at
the NY Waterway tour terminal, Pier 78**  (Hudson River at West 39th
Street). This meeting may include a visit to the wheelhouse of one their
ferries.
