Hello everyone! This is a last minute ditch effort to salvage a trip to the Isle au Haut in Maine. I am writing you because in the last 2 weeks several people dropped out and we will have to cancel the trip if we don't find at least one replacement. The last person only dropped out last night. This is very short notice and I am not sure that anyone will be able to make it but I would like to ask anyway. The trip is planed for this Saturday/Sunday (June 14/15) until next Saturday (June 21). I am leaving on Saturday but have no room in my vehicle. (I have a 2 seat car with small trunk and one kayak capacity rack). Bruce Rayvid from N.Y. City was planning to go but does not have a vehicle that can make the trip. He can not leave until Sunday afternoon and needs a ride. We have reservations at a campground in Stonington Maine for Saturday and Sunday (and possibly Monday night) and were planning to leave for the Isle au Haut on Monday (or Tuesday) We have permits for 2 lean-to's from Acadia NP for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. We will either return to the Stonington campground or stay one more night on an other Island to return Friday and drive home on Saturday. The driving time is about 8-10 hours depending on breaks. For those that have never heard of the Isle au Haut, it is one of the most beautiful parts of Acadia NP (it is not on Mt.Desert Island) with hiking trails galore. I have made this trip about 7 times so if you need further details please contact me.The cost is minimal (though gas prices have made it steeper) around $20 each a night for camping. Figure a couple of dinners out and bring food for the rest of the time. We have room for at least 3-4 more people. Should you be interested please contact me via e-mail or cell phone at (845) 551-7446 Regards,Mo Fridlich This is not an organized trip and you would be participating at your own risk. Only experienced paddlers are welcome. Maine waters are cold at this time of the year and appropriate measures must be taken. To reach Duck Harbor on the Isle of Haut is a full day paddle, approx. 14 miles with some open water crossings.
