NYCkayaker Jamaica Bay Day Trip

This is my first post in several years, so please let me know if there is a
better way.

 

Can someone recommend a place to launch a kayak in Jamaica Bay?  I have to
pick up my son at JFK at 5:30 pm this Saturday, but would like to spend the
day before then paddling close by.  Usually I head for the Sheffield Islands
in Norwalk, but this would be a different type of adventure.  Thanks in
advance.
