Now that I got the link back again and can see the pix, I agree that the splash of the whale when it comes down does seem to have little or no ripple effect on the ocean.

ok, I'd like them to be real, and they don't look implausible to me scale-wise or sea-state wise -
But Derrick managed to find the source of the photos. I'd tried that too but not very hard - "Pacific Coast" as a google search is not terribly effective, "Pacific Coast photography" not much better, but Derrick chased it down &
with apologies to myself, and Will, and the other people who wanted to believe 'em...
The source looks pretty dubious itself.
