the following is from community board 2, and concerns the announcements made
about pier 40 at yesterday's HRPT board meeting. at wednesday's HRP
advisory council meeting, none of this was intimated by the trust, so this
comes as a surprise.
as a community, we can now focus efforts on making sure that the camp
group/urban dove and the pier 40 partnership understand the importance of
preserving and expanding free public access for human-powered boating at
pier 40.
<<Dear Friends and Neighbors:
At a board meeting of the Hudson River Park Trust on Thursday, Trust chair
Diana Taylor announced that the "People's Pier" developer and the Pier 40
Partnership would have 90 days to meet required benchmarks to be selected to
develop Pier 40. Chair Taylor said that the Related Companies proposal for
an entertainment complex was no longer being considered because they could
not submit a proposal for a 30-year lease.
Pier 40 presents a difficult challenge and there is lots of hard work to be
done. The financial hurdles for a successful project at the pier are high.
Our community will have to stay united and we will need continued support
from our local elected officials as well as, perhaps, the mayor and
governor. Most of all, the effort will need the energetic and creative
leadership from the Trust. We all need to understand that doing nothing is
not an option and compromises will be in order, but the Trust needs to
accept that development on the scale proposed by Related will never be an
option for the pier.
This is a huge victory for our community and for the future of Hudson River
Park. Community Board 2 extends our congratulations and appreciation to
literally thousands of our neighbors and our elected officials who helped
stop an inappropriate project.
Also, please find attached the April calendar for the Community Board.
Sincerely,
Brad Hoylman
Chair
Community Board No. 2
