Ahoy Gowanus Dredgers and Deckhands,

We urge everyone to visit the Gowanus on May 7th and participate in
discussions with government agencies making decisions regarding the Gowanus
Canal!  Be sure to visit our website, www.gowanuscanal.org to view our
expanded calendar of FREE events this season.



MAY 3, Saturday 9:30am departure
Brooklyn Greenway Bike Tour

Join BGI www.brooklyngreenway.org on a 10-mile bike ride along the shoreline
from Newtown Creek to in Red Hook. Bring a helmet, water, spare tube, lunch,
sunscreen, and a camera! Tour is free, but donations are welcome.  Meet at
the foot of Manhattan Ave. Greenpoint, at Newtown Creek – take G train to
Greenpoint Avenue or the 7 train to Vernon Jackson Ave.



MAY 3, Saturday 1:00-5:00pm

Red Hook Cove Paddle and Shoreline Cleaning

Help clean Louis Valentino Jr. Pier beach and enjoy a canoe or kayak paddle
within the protected extents of the pier.  This tour affords fantastic
sunset views of the Statue of Liberty and there's plenty to enjoy in the
area before or after – visit www.redhookboaters.org for details.



MAY 4, Sunday 10:00am-2:00pm

Gowanus Canal Stewardship

Explore the Gowanus estuary at your own pace and enjoy discovering the
canal's unique mix of wildlife and urban waterway infrastructure.  Tours are
limited to 15-20 minutes at a time to give everyone a chance.  Following the
trip, help us collect trash that would otherwise wash into the waterway.
Meet at the launch site at the end of 2nd St. / off Bond Street at the
Gowanus Canal.

Council Member Bill de Blasio along with representatives of the NYS
Department of Environmental Conservation, Education, City Planning,
Buildings, NYPD, FDNY and NYC Parks and Recreation will be on hand to answer
questions on the future of the Gowanus neighborhood.
