Ahoy'all,
I spoke with Adam Green of Rocking the Boat ( http://rockingtheboat.org/) at
the truly Amazing Bronx River Flotilla (an enormous success -- I hope
the Bronx River Alliance (http://www.bronxriver.org/) crew shares details
with the list in an event report) about the coming City of Water Day
confluence at Governors Island on July 26. The good/bad news is that his
programs have grown so popular that he can't spare staff for this harborwide
celebration. But he can spare a rowboat.
And so, would anyone like to row one of Rocking the Boat's beautiful,
handcrafted Whitehalls with me, round trip, from the Bronx to Governors
Island so that the organization will have a physical presence on Governors
Island?
I did a similar distance with Rob Buchanan once, for the Brooklyn Bridge
Beach luau (http://www.friendsofbrooklynbridgebeach.org/) and had a great
time. Rob is a far, far better rower than me, but I tend to catch onto the
rhythm after the first quarter mile. :)
Another volunteer will lead the LIC Community Boathouse mini-armada, and we
will have Bronx River Alliance folks paddle some of our unmarked boats
alongside us from Hunters Point (hey, Hunts Points or Hunters Point, it's
all good), flying their banners and standards. Of course, maybe some Bronx
River Alliance die hards or friends from this list will paddle from their
launch to Governors Island alongside us?
And so...anyone up for this?
Salty regards,
Erik
