NYCkayaker Newtown Creek Community Boathouse

Ahoy'all,

The LIC Community Boathouse is happy to announce that we're creating a
sister group called (for now) the Newtown Creek Community Boathouse. We are
moving four canoes, each capable of carrying three people, and one or two
kayaks to a warehouse in Greenpoint until we secure a spot at 2nd Street in
Hunters Point.

We'll operate from the Manhattan Avenue launch or nature center while we're
in Greenpoint.

Our aim is to have a small program for the first summer -- at least one
ecological and history tour, or walk-up paddle, per month. More if the
volunteer base grows.

The Newtown Creek Community Boathouse (a generic name that could change as
the group grows) will function as an activity committee of the LIC Community
Boathouse for now, and we will apply to the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club for
affiliate status by summer 2009.
