NYCkayaker Bike Helmets and PFD not important?

I am not sure if "mike" is actually insinuating that bike helmets and PFDs
are Not Critical Equipment.  Please correct me if I misunderstood.  Let me
be clear---If you choose to not protect your self with these simple tools,
you put in jeopardy the life of the firemen/policemen who must rescue you.
 People who don't protect themselves, tend to be selfish and have limited
life experience.
